To celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Dinosaur Park, an exhibition is launching that will excite both prehistoric and rock fans alike: "Rock Fossils – True love never dies" showcases fossils named after rockstars.
Some paleontologists document their passion for rock, metal, or punk by naming new fossil species after their favorite bands and musicians. "Rock fossils" tells the story of life in prehistoric times, of people whose research work is inspired by rock music, and of the musicians whose fans they are.
Bizarre exhibits embody the special connection: for example, Kalloprion kilmisteri, a prehistoric bristle worm named after Motörhead legend Lemmy, which raises its biting tools in a massive enlargement. Or Quiliania graffini, the Jurassic proto-bird that honors "Bad Religion" singer (and paleontologist) Greg Griffin, and the snake star named after the Swedish death metal band "Arch Enemy," a resident of the prehistoric seas from Luxembourg. The trilobite named after punk rocker Sid Vicious features as an oversized fossil leather sofa in the exhibition. The who's who of rock music is immortalized in stone finds, from John Lennon and Mick Jagger to Mark Knopfler and Angus Young, and many more. Visitors can listen to the original sounds at audio stations in the exhibition.
"Rock Fossils" will be on display and audible from March 22 to June 15 at the Dinosaur Park Teufelsschlucht. Entrance is included in the ticket price for the Dinosaur Park.
Originally created in Denmark by model maker Esben Horn from 10tons, Rune Fjord Studio, and scientists Mats Eriksson, Jesper Milan, and Achim Reisdorf, the exhibition has already toured numerous renowned museums, including the Natural History Museum in Bern, the Senckenberg Natural History Museum in Frankfurt/Main, and the State Museum of Natural History in Stuttgart. The presentation of the exhibition at the Dinosaur Park Teufelsschlucht will not only have a rocking supporting program but will also reveal rock and metal fossils that have never been shown before.
In the anniversary year, there are many more special events planned. All information at www.dinosaurierpark-teufelsschlucht.de
