On a hike through the Bollendorf forest, this special rock was discovered which, with a little imagination, contains the naturally created image of a pregnant female figure. The discoverer of this rock formation, who had recently lost his wife, was obviously deeply moved by the rock image and asked Angela Kohns in November 1977 to add a depiction of the Virgin Mary to this natural recess. Initially, only the painter and her client knew about this special place in the forest, until more and more hikers discovered it and continued to visit it. The nature around this "Madonna in the Stone" is like a sacred space where hikers can offer their individual prayers in the silence of the forest.
Today, the "Madonna in the Stone" is also integrated into the Bollendorf Fairytale Trail and is a highlight on the route where you can come to rest and pray in silence.
