Bollendorf
It is a huge massif of sandstone and dolomite, relics of an ancient river delta into which the Sauer and its tributaries have cut deeply. Water, sun, wind and time are the architects of the steep rock faces that adorn the valley flanks and make the "Felsenwege" (rock paths) in the NaturWanderPark delux an impressive experience.
You start at the Sonnenberg above the vacation and border town of Bollendorf, quickly gain altitude and circle the Bollendorf plateau on its spectacular southern edge. Rugged rock formations tower above your heads: Nikolauslay, Muhmenlay and Predigtstuhl, encircled by the winding path that you follow over steps carved in stone. It's as if the devil had a hand in assembling these gigantic boulders: huge stone blocks, artfully stacked and well balanced - embedded in the lush green of ferns, lichens and mosses.
Now the trail descends steeply through the forest to a bizarrely shaped limestone sinter grotto, over which the water drips in tears: the Tränenlay. Cross the Sauer over an old stone bridge and you are now in the "Little Luxembourg Switzerland". You follow the rocky gorge of the Millebaach and reach Beaufort with its imposing castle ruins and the worth seeing Renaissance castle. Treat yourself to a break: street café or castle tour with delicious cassis tasting - depending on your mood.
Adventure together
The spectacular rock impressions continue in the Haupeschbach valley. After every bend, a new perspective, a new photo motif. Over footbridges, sticks and stones you go downhill sometimes to the right, sometimes to the left of the water until you reach Grundhof. Then you climb uphill again and reach another highlight in the rocky scenery: the "Mandrack" passage. It is only about 40 cm wide in the shoulder area. It's good to have a partner at your side to take your backpack. The rock path now turns downhill to Bollendorf, where you will reach your starting point again on the opposite slope.
