In the 18th century, the Austrian administration promoted the construction of glassworks in the Duchy of Luxembourg. In 1796, the glassworks was founded by Johann Dominik Laeis. Around 50 people were employed here, producing glass balloons, window glass, bottles and fine crystal glass. There were two production periods from 1774 to 1811/12 and from 1843 to 1850/51. Production finally ceased around 1850/51.
Remains of the large round building with a diameter of 17 meters, in which the glass furnace was located, can still be seen. The melting furnace is said to have had a diameter of 5m. The wood for the furnace was brought to the furnaces by wagons through a long corridor and the ash was transported out on the opposite side.
Other buildings in the complex include the grinding shop with its narrow windows, behind each of which stood a grinding or cutting bench, which was driven by a water wheel located in the neighboring mill wheel building. An administration building and the glass master's house have also been preserved.
The manor house on the other side of the Enz was built in 1789 and is still owned by the family today. It houses a wedding room for civil weddings. A ballroom in the former farm building can be hired for celebrations.
