Burg Bollendorf

Bollendorf

Perched on a rock above the Sûre, Bollendorf Castle welcomes all those who enter the village from the direction of Echternacherbrück. The castle was the seat of the provost's office administered by Echternach Abbey and later became the summer residence of its abbots.

The origins of the castle date back to the Middle Ages: a round tower with embrasures faces the river. However, Bollendorf Castle acquired its current appearance mainly during the Baroque period. Abbot Gregorius Schouppe, whose coat of arms and an inscription with the year 1739 can be seen above the portal of the main building, had the building altered in the 18th century and extended to include the central building and the south wing. The former living quarters of the servants and the farm buildings are arranged in a semicircle around the courtyard. The castle complex also included the mill below the castle and a garden with a pavilion.

In the 1970s, the Freundt family took over the complex, restored it piece by piece and turned it into a hotel-restaurant. Here you can be a guest in a historical ambience and, for example, stay in a room with a Renaissance-style décor. For example, you can stay overnight in a room with a 17th century Renaissance fireplace or dine in style in the new restaurant "Ehemaliger Pferdehof".
